The rain pounded on Vincent’s roof all night long, which is good because Vincent was in need of a bath. By morning the sun is shining. As we eat breakfast we watch several of our neighbors pack up to move on to new destinations. When we finish eating, we do the same. We stop at Aucoin Bakery for pastries for Tuesday’s breakfast. We will need to get an early start to get to Sydney in time for my appointment with the orthopedic surgeon.
We drive the Cabot Trail through the Cape Breton Highlands once again. I doubt anyone could ever tire of the beautiful vistas along this route.
We soon reach Broad Cove Campground near the Ingonishes on the Atlantic side of Cape Breton. Here pink granite cliffs reach down to the Atlantic. It reminds us of Maine. As we check in to site 197 I note the weather forecast posted at the entrance kiosk is for rain this evening, so one of our first tasks is deploying the tarp. After that job is done we take a short hobble to the end of the road to view the Atlantic Ocean. If all goes well tomorrow perhaps I’ll be able to try out my new walking boot with a hobble down the gravel path to the beach.
On the way back from the campground’s coastal view I point out a trailer at one of the sites that has a Delaware license plate. O notes that the nearby car has a Quebec license. We decide that perhaps the trailer is rented. We return to site 197 and are busy getting dinner ingredients out when a familiar voice at the van says,”It is you!” Our friends, Carolyn and Phil from Delaware have landed in the same campground on the same night as we have, and only four sites down from us! The Delaware trailer is theirs. They were out driving when we walked by. (The Quebec car belongs to the campers at the next site.) What a coincidence! We catch up a bit and will touch base again tomorrow night before they move on.
