Friday 1 August 2025 We are up at 5:15 this morning. It’s easy to wake up early when it begins getting light at 4 am. We eat our bran muffins accompanied by yogurt and camp instant coffee. Tuesday 29 July 2025: I’m awakened around 6 am by the sound of an engine starting. It’s the truck parked next to us. I watch as it pulls out of the parking lot and drives off. A bit past 6:30 I wake O. We get dressed (easy because mostly we just slept in our clothes) straighten up Vincent for driving and head into Haines proper, just a few miles up the road. 9-10 October 2022 Sunday We have 480 miles to drive today. I ordered breakfast online last night for pick-up this morning at Ancora Restaurant. Pick-up goes quite smoothly. Our breakfast is waiting on the counter when I enter the restaurant. The coffee is hot and good. O and I eat in the van in the parking lot. We can’t finish the huge breakfast so we save the potatoes for tomorrow
5-6 October 2022 Wednesday and Thursday Cleveland The weather is certainly nicer than when we were here in August. We have cool, crisp fall days. S and C do lots of cooking: garbanzo soup for dinner, accompanied by the multigrain bread O and I brought from Portland. They’ve also baked chocolate chip cookies, and on Thursday, a batch of pumpkin cranberry muffins for breakfast on the road Friday morning. We
28 September 2022, Wednesday On to Pennsylvania: We leave Cedar Haven by 7:30 in order to get to Standard Baking Co. in Portland when they open. I buy 2 multigrain miches, 2 whole wheat sourdough loaves, 2 baguettes and some pastries for the next few days’ breakfasts. 17-27 September 2022, Saturday, Freeport, Maine Our departure from camp is unhurried and we have an easy drive to Freeport, Maine. Camp is soon set up again, this time at Cedar Haven Family Campground. The campground is less than a mile from G&N’s home, but it’s across 295 from us, so we have to drive 4.5 miles to get there.
