30 August 2017, Wednesday
At 6 am it is still quite dark. We dress and empty out Wglwof. By the time we have finished washing up, it is light enough to strike the tent. We arrive at the Trapper Grille near Signal Mountain two minutes after it opens at 7 am. We enjoy a substantial breakfast and acquire two morning glory muffins for tomorrow’s breakfast. Then we begin our day’s journey. We travel north through Grand Teton NP and on through Yellowstone, passing fumaroles steaming in the morning sun. We exit at West Yellowstone and follow Highway 191 north up the scenic valley between the Gallatin and Madison ranges. We intersect I-90 near Bozeman and turn west through Montana’s smoky haze which is even more dense than the haze we faced in the Tetons. After an early supper in Missoula, we drive another 70 miles west to St. Regis MT. Here we stop for the night. Only 407 miles to go to Redmond tomorrow.
