Washington State Ferry

29 September 2016, Thursday

Today is Canada departure day. It seems impossible that we have worked our way through all my many pages of notes and reservations to the last page in my folder, the Washington State Ferry, Elwha. It is a pleasant day for a ferry trip, bright and sunny. We arrive at the terminal early and wait patiently.

Jazz is loaded in the center of the ferry, first in line to disembark. We grab our apple-apricot pie and head to the upper deck. As the ferry departs, we sit on a bench and enjoy the flaky crust and fruit. As we travel through islands on the way back to the US I spy a few sea lions and then a pod of dolphins. We stop midway to Anacortes, at Friday Harbor on San Juan Island. Here a few people disembark and many more cars and trucks are squeezed onto the Elwha. Finally we are underway again.

We arrive at Anacortes around 3:15. Ninety miles to go. Once in Redmond we drive the route to the Redmond Transit center so that O can retrieve S at 6:30. K arrives home soon after and we are off to a Thai restaurant for another delicious meal and an unexpectedly good Basil Honey beer produced by Bison Brewery.

Back at the apartment we catch up and view pictures and videos of the new puppy. Then we tackle the blueberry-apple pie from Victoria, and off to bed.
