Done with Bear Run

8 August 2015

I awake early after a delightful 10 hrs of sleep. Thermarest neoair x-lite is
sure luxurious after sleeping on 2 sit-upons, and a backpack. We are on the trail by 9 am. It’s a pretty, but short walk to the parking lot through more tunnels of rhododendrons. Our goals for today: showers, food and laundry.

It is another hot, humid August day: sunny, but with intermittent showers.
Ohiopyle is crowded when we return from our hike, but oddly enough, no one else seems interested in doing laundry in the middle of a summer afternoon.

Before laundry we return to Ohiopyle House Cafe for salads.

A little sign on our table says “Pay the farmer now, or pay the doctor later.” Just what I’ve been preaching for years! Off to the laundromat. There I charge my Kindle and read a Time magazine from 2013. O is dozing on the shaded patio.

Back at Ohiopyle State Park, we study our maps in preparation for Monday’s drive and suddenly realize we have well over 1000 miles of driving to get to Grand Portage, Minnesota. After planning our driving route and potential stopping places we attend a program on snakes, with an interesting video on Timber Rattlers. Then off to bed in the smokey air. Why
people need campfires in 80+ degree weather is beyond me.
