Chutes Provincial Park

5 August 2016, Friday

Yes! The car starts this morning and we find the Subaru dealer. The people at the dealership are very friendly. They thoroughly check Jazz’s electrical system. Nothing is wrong, but the battery’s charge is slightly low. Turns out Subaru installs fairly small batteries in new cars, and two years is not an unusually short lifespan.  O & I opt for a new larger battery. The last thing we want is to be stranded somewhere in “middle-of-nowhere” Saskatchewan.  We are both having flashbacks to our flat tire adventure in southern Idaho on last summer’s trip.

By 10 am we are on the road westward to Chutes Provincial Park. We again stop for a late lunch, this time in Sudbury.  Our Silent Lake friends text us while we are at lunch to check up on us. We thank them again.  We drive the last 104 km to the park and arrive at 6 pm. The tent is neatly set up by 6:30 and we have time for a walk along the Aux Sables River to view several of its scenic waterfalls. Thanks to JW for suggesting a stop here when we were first discussing our  cross-Canada trip.

Chutes gets its name from past logging days according to the park newspaper. A 60 meter log chute was built to bypass the river’s main falls. The logs were then floated to the mouth of the Spanish River and on to Lake Huron.
