Missoula Montana

31 August 2015, Monday

After eating our cinnamon bun hubcap and our apple fritter, we are on the
road to Missoula. The haze has lifted considerably and it is a
pleasant 70 degrees.

Our journey goes well. This part of the trip is much more scenic. We
check into the second of two Motel 6’s off I-90. They are less than a
mile apart, and it was not clear which one had our reservations. Next,
we seek the local forest service office. The ranger provides lots of
information on local camping. O walks a short way up Fort Missoula
Road from the forest service office and finds the National Forest
Foundation office. There he meets Greg Peters, communications
director for the foundation. O and Greg spend a long time
“communicating” while I’m getting hungry!  We get lots of useful
information, though, about camping at Glacier. Greg and his wife were engaged
at Kintla Lake, just north of Bowman Lake where we plan to camp.
Finally, we find dinner – at another brew pub, of course. The
waiter tells us we are lucky to have arrived today. The entire town
has been covered in a thick, smokey haze with no mountains visible
for the past few weeks. This is the first relatively clear day!

Time to get back to the motel and work on uploading the blog.
