To Altus, Oklahoma

26 October 2015, Monday

We both agree a stay in a motel for showers would be a good idea
tonight. We visit the Blue Cafe and Bakery for breakfast in Carlsbad
and are quickly on the road heading east into Texas. Most of the day
is spent driving through very flat land on very straight roads. We
drive north and east across the northern panhandle towards Altus, OK
which is about 30 miles from Quartz Mountain State Park where we plan
to do some hiking tomorrow. We try to break  up some of the monotony
by finding amusing shop names, such as The Recycled Cow, a shoe and
boot repair store.

After 380 miles we are in Altus and find a very nice room in the Microtel.
The room is well-furnished and there is free guest laundry and free
hot breakfast! What more could we ask for. After finding the motel,
we go in search of dinner. We are unable to find one of the “best
Mexican Restaurants” in town, and the other appears to be closed.
We end up at a Japanese Restaurant of all things, which turns out to
be very good.
