Morgantown WVa as We Head Home Again

14 May 2017, Sunday

Today is Mothers’ Day. This is important only because all the breakfast staff at the lodge has been pulled to prepare for the big brunch for later this morning, leaving us early risers with a buffet of cold eggs, bacon, biscuits, pancakes, etc. I guess someone forgot to light the little flames under the dishes. Oh well. We quickly finish breakfast and walk back down to our campsite to pack up the tent. We are on the road to Morgantown by 9 am. Our drive progresses smoothly. We are a bit concerned about possible long waits for dinner because of Mothers’ Day. Much to our dismay, we discover it is also WVU graduation weekend!

Luckily, we arrive at Morgantown Brewing Co by 3:30 and find a table right away. We also managed to rescue G’s coat, cash and ID from the Quality Inn before finding the Brew Pub. Our late lunch is fine: Shrummus sandwich (mushrooms, hummus, and a garlicky sauce,) Caprese sandwiches (fresh mozzarella, basil, tomatoes, and balsamic drizzle) and good amber ale. Tonight we are staying at the Morgantown Econo Lodge because their room rates remained low despite graduation weekend. G and I head off from our motel to find the Mon River Walk, a rail-trail along the Monongahela River. It’s a short walk from our hotel to the trail, albeit along a very busy road. The river walk is pleasant. I spy an oriole as we ramble.

O stays behind to relax, sip hot chocolate, and compile an extensive list of the ideas we have come up with for Vincent’s further modification prior to our upcoming, longer, late summer trip.Tomorrow we’ll be home.
