Back to the B&B

10 September 2016, Saturday

Rain again. All night! It is still raining when we wake. Again we are the first ones at the cooking shelter. This time it is more difficult to get the fire going. All the wood is damp. O eventually succeeds. After breakfast we strike the tent. There are occasional patches of blue in the sky, but we have seen this before. We decide to take the 11:30 bus down the mountain and save the remaining hikes at Lake O’Hara for another visit. So, is Lake O’Hara the most beautiful campground and hiking area in the world? I guess we cannot fairly judge since much of the valley and peaks were hidden by clouds during our visit, but it certainly ranks as one of the wettest! We will have to return to judge fairly.

From Lake O’Hara we cross Kicking Horse Pass and stop at the Spiral Tunnels, a series of railway tunnels that actually curve through the mountains to make the grade over the pass less steep. We then stop in Field at the visitor center and have lunch at the Truffle Pigs Bistro. Yum.

And good beer!

We are warm and dry now at the B&B. There may be snow tomorrow, but then the forecast is for five days of sunshine with temperatures in the high teens to low 20’s C. I’ll believe it when I see it!
