Heading North through Michigan

10 August 2015

We actually manage to wake at 6 am and get on the road by 7 am. It is
still warm and humid. We are both glad to be heading north. We stop
along the road in a small town to get some coffee to go with our pastries. The pie and the muffin from Ohiopyle are delicious, but the coffee may as well have been colored water. As we cross into Ohio, we find a road side stop with a Panera’s. Their coffee is much better. Our plan is to get 450 miles further north today, sort of a sprint to keep us on schedule.

I get to try using the Kindle in the car. Technology works! We check the
weather and see there is a cold front sweeping down from the North.
We will be driving through thunderstorms today. We drive into Michigan and find a Cabela’s conveniently located along the road. We stop to stock up on butane for our torches. Back in the car I find a very inexpensive Econolodge while surfing on the Kindle.  It is right along our route, not the most elegant of motels, but clean and it has wi-fi and laundry facilities. We enjoy dinner in Bay City and our first night under a roof in a week. We have driven 448.5 miles to get here, almost achieving our goal of 450 miles!
